The author Anne Bradstreet (1612 to 1672) lived on Puritan`s time, when women were submissive about their husbands and men in general. So her works were not recognized by society, in her poem The Prologue she speaks about herself representing all women poets and authors.

She compars her way of writing, her feelings and her thoughts, ironicallysing, with famous men works. She talks about the nine muses that inspired the arts and sciences (muse are women!) who were admired by men and she can not appreciate them.

If she can and she did write about `the Nine`, society, especially men, would call this of plaggio and they would clain about that. Because women had to be houseworkers, mothers and cookers, and must not be authors, workers, soldiers, etc, which were part of men life.
